China”s NEVs Hit Record 60.6% Market Share in August Amid Export Boom
Data released by the China Association of Automobile Manufacturers (CAAM) showed that the dominant position of new energy vehicles (NEVs) in the Chinese auto market was further consolidated in August. NEVs accounted for 60.6% of total monthly new car sales, setting a new record high, according to Xinhua News Agency.
The data revealed that the production and sales volumes of new energy vehicles in August alone exceeded 1.65 million and 1.64 million units respectively, representing a year-on-year increase of about 20% for both.
Overall automobile production and sales in August reached 2.68 million and 2.71 million units, respectively. Chen Shihua, Deputy Secretary-General of CAAM, attributed this month-on-month growth primarily to ongoing subsidies for vehicle consumption.
Vehicle exports also continued their robust growth in August, reaching 1.01 million units, a 65.3% year-on-year increase. This marks the third consecutive month that monthly vehicle exports have surpassed the one million mark.
Notably, exports of new energy vehicles surged 1.3-fold in August, reaching 526,000 units.
From January to August, total vehicle exports stood at 7.15 million units, up 66.7% year-on-year. This figure includes 3.44 million new energy vehicles, which saw a 1.2-fold increase.
New energy vehicles have accounted for more than half of China's auto exports for three consecutive months. This fundamental shift in the export structure indicates that the country's auto exports are transitioning toward an NEV-led model, opening up global markets through the electrification technology pathway.
