Beltone Venture Capital Nears Investments in Three Egyptian Startups
Ali Mokhtar, CEO and Managing Partner of Beltone Venture Capital, said the company is nearing new investments in three Egyptian startups operating in consumer, technology and PropTech sectors, with talks at their final stages.
$1 Million Set Aside for Three Startups
Mokhtar said Beltone Venture Capital has allocated about $1 million, equivalent to nearly EGP 50 million, for the three investments. Two of the startups are at the Pre-Seed stage, while the third is in the growth stage.
He said the three companies currently represent the most advanced opportunities among a larger group of startups being evaluated by Beltone, with the new investments expected to be finalized within the next two or three months, or by the end of this year.
Major Egyptian Exit Underway
Mokhtar said Beltone Venture Capital is currently working on a new exit from an Egyptian company, describing it as a “major exit.” Negotiations have reached the agreement stage, but the company’s name and expected transaction value have not been disclosed pending completion of the final procedures.
Beltone Still Holds Stake in Bosta
Mokhtar denied that Beltone had exited Bosta, explaining that the previous exit involved other investors whose investments are managed by Beltone, rather than Beltone’s direct stake. He confirmed that Beltone still directly owns about 5% of Bosta.
Potential Moroccan Exit Could Return Three Times Investment
Mokhtar also said Beltone is studying and negotiating a potential exit from a Moroccan company in its venture capital portfolio. If completed under the current terms, the deal could generate a return of up to three times the investment within less than 18 months.
The negotiations have not yet reached a final agreement, he said, stressing that the targeted return depends on completing the transaction under the current structure.
Beltone Venture Capital has completed five exits since its establishment, providing liquidity that can be redeployed into new investments in startups and relatively larger companies through its Private Equity investments.
New Investment Funds Under Consideration
The company is also studying the creation of new investment funds in partnership with Beltone Asset Management and other investors. The proposed model would combine Beltone’s role as an investor with responsibility for managing the investments. The funds remain at an early stage, with capital sizes and final investor structures yet to be determined.
Thunder Fund Targeted for Q1 2027
Mokhtar said work is continuing on the planned startup investment fund with Thunder, with a launch targeted for the first quarter of 2027. The fund is expected to have more than EGP 250 million in capital, with the possibility of increasing its size as investor interest grows.
