Egypt Digital Platform Shortlisted for Digital@UNGA 2026 Awards Among More Than 1,500 Projects from 146 Countries

Egypt’s “Egypt Digital” platform, one of the national projects undertaken by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) in cooperation with various government entities, has been shortlisted for the Digital@UNGA 2026 Awards after being selected among the top 15 projects worldwide in the Digital Government category.
The awards are organized by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in connection with the action lines of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS).
The platform was selected as part of a broad international competition that attracted more than 1,500 digital projects and initiatives from 146 countries across the various award categories.
The Digital Government category is one of four categories in the Digital@UNGA 2026 Awards, alongside Digital Inclusion, Digital Horizons, and Digital Pioneers. The awards aim to recognize outstanding digital initiatives and projects that contribute to inclusive, responsible, and human-centered digital transformation, support the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, highlight digital solutions with tangible impact, encourage responsible innovation, and strengthen international cooperation to build a more inclusive and sustainable digital future.
The evaluation process was conducted by an independent, high-level international jury comprising a group of leading experts and specialists. Participating projects and initiatives underwent a comprehensive review and assessment process to select the most prominent, innovative, and impactful digital experiences.
The winning projects are scheduled to be announced during the awards ceremony, which will be held in New York City on September 21, on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly. All shortlisted projects will also receive international certificates of recognition in appreciation of their achievements and contributions to advancing digital transformation.
President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi launched the Egypt Digital platform in 2022 as the national unified platform for delivering government digital services to citizens. The platform was established as part of the implementation of the Egypt Digital Strategy and the development of an integrated digital society that leverages modern technologies to provide citizens with simplified and secure access to government services, saving time and effort, accelerating transaction processing, and improving the quality of services provided to citizens.
The Egypt Digital platform currently offers more than 240 digital government services across 29 service packages, covering several vital sectors, including supply services, traffic services, notarization, commercial registration, civil status, credit inquiries, and other services that address citizens’ daily needs.
These services are available through an integrated network of channels, including the online portal, a mobile application available on iOS and Android, as well as post offices, making government services more accessible to citizens across the country. The platform also provides home delivery of documents for certain services, further enhancing accessibility and improving the user experience.
The platform is built on an integrated digital infrastructure that incorporates several components of the national digital infrastructure, including digital identity, electronic signatures, digital payment systems, and secure data exchange through the Government Digital Transformation Platform. It is connected to more than 100 national databases and integrated with 109 government entities, enabling the delivery of interconnected and integrated government services to citizens.
The number of registered users on the Egypt Digital platform has exceeded 12.9 million citizens, while approximately 60 million digital transactions have been completed through the platform, reflecting the growing adoption of digital government services and the expansion of the digital channels provided by the state.
As part of its efforts to improve the user experience, the platform enables citizens to track the status of their requests online through notifications that provide updates on the latest developments and different stages of service delivery.
The platform is also leveraging artificial intelligence by providing an AI chatbot that helps citizens inquire about government services, understand the required procedures and documents, and identify the appropriate service. This contributes to simplifying access to services, improving interaction efficiency, and providing a more seamless and flexible digital experience.
In line with Egypt’s national digital vision for the future, the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology aims to increase the number of services available through the Egypt Digital platform to 270 services by the end of 2026 and more than 400 services by 2030.
The Egypt Digital platform is also committed to applying the highest standards of cybersecurity and data protection, in accordance with best practices and internationally recognized standards in the field, ensuring the protection of citizens’ data, securing their digital transactions, and strengthening trust in digital government services.
The inclusion of Egypt’s Digital platform among the finalists for the Digital@UNGA 2026 Awards reflects the tangible progress achieved by Egypt in digital transformation and the development of government services. It also represents international recognition of Egypt’s experience in building advanced digital infrastructure and leveraging technology to improve the quality of government services and enhance government efficiency, supporting the country’s efforts to achieve sustainable economic and social development.
A delegation from the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology is scheduled to participate in the Digital@UNGA activities, held on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly meetings in New York. The delegation will showcase Egypt’s digital transformation experience and the government’s efforts to develop digital services, as well as the achievements of the Egypt Digital platform in expanding access to services through various digital channels.
The participation will take place before a group of technology leaders, officials, and decision-makers from around the world. It will also include participation in international sessions addressing the future of digital transformation and strengthening international cooperation in technology and innovation.
It is worth noting that Egypt ranked 22nd globally among the Leader Group of countries in the 2025 GovTech Maturity Index, issued by the World Bank, reflecting the progress achieved by the country in digital transformation and the development of digital government services.
