Egypt”s Industry Minister and Haier CEO Discuss Expansion Plans and Approaching Phase 2 Launch
Minister of Industry Eng. Khaled Hashem held a strategic meeting with representatives of Haier Egypt, led by CEO Yang Linbing, to review the company’s ongoing projects and ambitious expansion plans within the Egyptian market. The discussions, attended by Assistant Minister for Strategic Affairs Eng. Mohamed Sami, focused on deepening local manufacturing and advancing the domestic supply chain.
Eco-Friendly Complex and Phase 2 Expansion
The meeting showcased Haier’s eco-friendly industrial complex in the 10th of Ramadan City. Spanning 200,000 square meters with a total investment of $135 million, the facility comprises four specialized factories producing air conditioners, washing machines, televisions, and electronic screens, alongside metal forming and plastic injection operations.
Following the successful launch of Phase 1 two years ago—which boasts an annual production capacity exceeding one million appliances and exports 30% of its output—Haier is now gearing up to inaugurate Phase 2 in November. This upcoming phase will be dedicated to manufacturing refrigerators and freezers, adding an annual production capacity of over half a million units.
Boosting Local Content and Supply Chains
A key focal point of the meeting was the company's enterprise division, which manufactures Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) central air conditioning systems with 42.6% local content to meet the demands of Egypt's new residential cities. Meanwhile, its home air conditioning units have achieved a 65% local component, with the entire complex heavily reliant on clean energy operations.
Minister Hashem emphasized the government's pride in hosting a major industrial and technological entity like Haier. He urged the company to further increase its local value addition by manufacturing high-precision components, such as chillers for central ACs, which would significantly contribute to deepening local industry and reducing the national import bill. He also highlighted the Ministry's readiness to assist in developing and qualifying local suppliers through the Industrial Modernization Centre.
In response, CEO Yang Linbing commended the continuous support from the Ministry of Industry. He reaffirmed Haier’s long-term commitment to injecting further investments, expanding its production base in Egypt, utilizing local talent, and ultimately strengthening the "Made in Egypt" brand across global markets.
