Egypt Gold Prices Decline in Early Trading as Global Markets Await U.S. Inflation Data

Gold prices in Egypt recorded a relative decline at the start of trading on Monday, September 7, 2026, compared to Sunday's closing levels.

Globally, gold slipped at the start of the week, pressured by rising expectations of U.S. interest rate hikes following robust labor market data. Investors remain focused on upcoming U.S. inflation figures scheduled for release later this week for fresh signals regarding the Federal Reserve's monetary policy trajectory.

Workmanship fees (making charges) continue to vary among jewellers and across different regions. According to the "iSagha" platform, average gold prices across Egypt on Monday—excluding workmanship fees—stood as follows:

24-Karat Gold: Quoted at EGP 7,229 for sale and EGP 7,172 for purchase per gram.

21-Karat Gold: The primary standard for local retail jewelry reached EGP 6,325 for sale and EGP 6,275 for purchase per gram.

Global Market Pressures

Spot gold dropped 0.5% to $4,405.47 per ounce by 02:11 GMT, following a 1% decline at the close of Friday's session. Meanwhile, U.S. gold futures for December delivery fell 0.5% to $4,452.20 per ounce.

The downward movement follows a market reassessment of interest rate trajectories, as stronger-than-anticipated U.S. employment figures reinforced bets that monetary authorities may sustain a restrictive policy stance for an extended period.
