US Dollar Edges Down Against Egyptian Pound Amid Record Expatriate Remittances

The US dollar recorded a slight decline against the Egyptian pound on Sunday, September 6, 2026, according to the latest updates from state-owned and private banks across Egypt.

Egyptians closely track foreign exchange fluctuations, as the US dollar serves as a primary driver of domestic consumer prices, particularly for goods reliant on foreign imports.

The fiscal year 2025–2026 saw record inflows of remittances from Egyptians working abroad, reaching approximately $47.3 billion—a 29.6% year-on-year increase compared to roughly $36.5 billion in FY 2024–2025. Remittances continued their upward trajectory in June 2026, rising 15.6% to about $4.2 billion, compared to $3.6 billion in June 2025.

USD Exchange Rates Across Egyptian Banks

According to data from the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE), the US dollar was quoted at EGP 50.88 for purchase and EGP 50.98 for sale at the time of reporting.

Rates across major commercial banks registered as follows:

National Bank of Egypt (NBE): EGP 50.88 for purchase and EGP 50.98 for sale.

Banque Misr: EGP 50.88 for purchase and EGP 50.98 for sale.

Commercial International Bank (CIB): EGP 50.83 for purchase and EGP 50.93 for sale.

Bank of Alexandria: EGP 50.78 for purchase and EGP 50.88 for sale.

Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank (ADIB): EGP 51.07 for purchase and EGP 51.17 for sale.

Arab Currency Rates Against the Egyptian Pound

Arab currencies also trended lower against the Egyptian pound on Sunday:

Saudi Riyal (SAR): Stood at EGP 13.51 for purchase and EGP 13.57 for sale at NBE, while ADIB quoted it at EGP 13.60 for purchase and EGP 13.62 for sale.

UAE Dirham (AED): Registered EGP 13.83 for purchase and EGP 13.88 for sale at NBE, compared to EGP 13.90 for purchase and EGP 13.93 for sale at ADIB.
