Egypt's dietary supplements sector is pursuing aggressive export expansion into emerging markets, calling for mutual regulatory recognition agreements across Africa and Latin America to accelerate overseas market access.
During a tour of the dedicated dietary supplements pavilion at the "Pharmaconex 2026" exhibition in Cairo, Dr. Tarek El-Houby, Chairman of the National Food Safety Authority (NFSA), praised the sector's rapid growth. El-Houby emphasized the critical need to modernize specialized testing laboratories to meet stringent international standards and bolster export competitiveness.
Push for Bilateral Registration Accords
Mohamed Anwar, Chairman of the Egyptian Association of Dietary Supplement Producers and Exporters, stated that securing bilateral protocols for the mutual recognition of product registrations is vital for international scale.
Under mutual recognition frameworks:
Cost and Time Reductions: Egyptian products registered locally with NFSA would enter destination markets directly without undergoing repetitive, lengthy registration processes in each country.
First-Mover Advantage: With limited domestic supplement manufacturing capabilities currently active across many African nations, early entry offers substantial export opportunities before regional competitors establish local capacity.
Regional Hub Ambition: Establishing broad trade corridors in Africa and Latin America positions Egypt as a strategic manufacturing and export hub for nutritional supplements.
