UAE Renewable Energy Capacity Surges 63-Fold, Reaching 8.2 GW in 2025
The United Arab Emirates has achieved unprecedented milestones in its energy sector, marked by a massive expansion in clean energy sources and significant upgrades to the national power grid. Sharif Al Olama, Undersecretary for Energy and Petroleum Affairs at the Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure, confirmed to the Emirates News Agency (WAM) that these advancements stem from a unified national strategy to secure a sustainable, future-ready energy ecosystem.
Key Energy Milestones and 2025 Metrics
Capacity Growth: Renewable energy production capacity skyrocketed by more than 63 times, climbing from just 129 megawatts (MW) in 2015 to over 8.2 gigawatts (GW) in 2025.
Clean Energy Share: Clean sources accounted for 32.4% of total electricity production in 2025, with an official government target to reach 35% by 2031.
Installed Capacity: The total installed capacity of clean energy plants hit 13,805 MW. This diverse energy mix encompasses nuclear power, photovoltaic and concentrated solar energy, wind power, and waste-to-energy technologies.
Total Generation vs. Consumption: Total electricity generated nationwide reached 192,735 gigawatt-hours (GWh) in 2025, comfortably exceeding the total domestic consumption of 174,524 GWh.
Clean Generation Volume: Electricity produced specifically from clean sources exceeded 62.4 GWh during the year.
