Incoming Swiss Bankers Association Head Warns Excessive Regulation Risks Switzerland”s Financial Hub Status
Giorgio Pradelli, the incoming president of the Swiss Bankers Association (SBA), has warned that imposing excessive regulations on banks could jeopardize Switzerland’s standing as a global financial hub.
Pradelli, who also serves as chief executive of Zurich-based private bank EFG International, is slated to formally assume the SBA presidency on September 17, 2026, while maintaining his chief executive role at EFG, the Financial Times reported, citing an interview with him.
"We cannot take Switzerland's continued prominence for granted if we do not apply the right policies, including the regulatory framework," Pradelli told the Financial Times.
His remarks come as Switzerland prepares to implement sweeping reforms across its banking sector in the wake of Credit Suisse's 2023 collapse and subsequent state-backed acquisition by UBS.
