OpenAI Notifies SpaceX of Intent to Terminate Cursor Model Supply Contract by November 2026

OpenAI has officially notified SpaceX of its intention to terminate its contract to provide artificial intelligence models to the coding tool Cursor, proposing a final termination deadline of November 12, 2026.

According to Sina Finance, OpenAI stated that this date represents the maximum notice period permitted under the agreement, intended to ensure developers maintain uninterrupted access to the models for as long as possible.

Halting Future Models to Cursor

OpenAI confirmed that it will not supply Cursor with upcoming models, including its "Astra" model, though Cursor retains the contractual right to exit the partnership ahead of the November deadline.

The AI company noted that while both parties had collaborated for nearly four years, the decision was driven by prior contractual disputes involving Elon Musk’s enterprises. OpenAI further clarified that the amended agreement contains a specific termination clause triggered by a change in ownership.
