UAE’s Al Dahra Signs $500 Million 5-Year Wheat Supply Agreement with Egypt’s GASC Backed by ADEX

Al Dahra Agriculture, a subsidiary of UAE-based agribusiness multinational Al Dahra Holding, has signed a definitive five-year operational agreement to supply milling wheat to Egypt’s General Authority for Supply Commodities (GASC). The signing transitions a strategic bilateral partnership established in 2023 into full operational execution.

The agreement was signed at the Egyptian Cabinet headquarters in New Alamein City. It establishes the operational framework under which wheat shipments will be delivered to GASC under an existing financing program backed by the Abu Dhabi Exports Office (ADEX).

Valued at up to $500 million over five years, the operational contract operationalizes the preliminary cooperation framework announced in August 2023, formalizing it into a binding, long-term food security and commodity supply mechanism.

The Abu Dhabi Exports Office affirmed its ongoing commitment to deploying tailored trade finance solutions to facilitate bilateral trade flows and economic cooperation. ADEX highlighted that backing sustainable, reliable wheat supplies from Al Dahra to Egypt bolsters cross-border trade, supports Emirati export expansion, and reinforces strategic economic ties between the UAE and Egypt.

Key Strategic Drivers & Market Takeaways

Securing Strategic Food Reserves: As the world’s largest wheat importer, Egypt relies heavily on stable multi-year procurement pipelines to insulate its bread subsidy system and strategic grain reserves against global price shocks and geopolitical disruptions.

Government-Backed Export Financing (ADEX): The integration of ADEX financing highlights the growing role of sovereign export credit agencies in de-risking large-scale commodity trades, providing favorable credit terms while driving foreign market penetration for UAE agribusinesses.

Deepening UAE-Egypt Economic Corridors: Moving from a non-binding strategic intent to a $500 million executed contract reinforces institutional trade and investment integration between Cairo and Abu Dhabi across vital sectors, including agriculture, ports, and industrial supply chains.
