Qatar Digital Payments Surge 40% YoY to QAR 106.8 Billion in July 2026 Fueled by Direct and Instant Transfers
Qatar’s fintech and digital payments sector recorded robust growth in July 2026, driven by a sharp rise in direct account-to-account transfers, the rapid adoption of instant payment platforms, and steady gains across point-of-sale (POS) and e-commerce transactions.
Official data released by the Qatar Central Bank (QCB) showed that the total value of electronic payment transactions reached QAR 106.814 billion ($27.5 billion) in July 2026, marking a 40% year-on-year (YoY) surge compared to QAR 76.051 billion ($20.1 billion) recorded in July 2025. Total transaction volume grew by 23% YoY, climbing from 58.970 million to 72.487 million transactions.
The national transfer system, "Tahweel", served as the primary growth engine. The value of direct interbank transfers through Tahweel jumped 63% YoY to QAR 77.051 billion ($20.0 billion), while transaction count spiked 170% YoY to reach 4.233 million transactions. Consequently, Tahweel accounted for 78.9% of total electronic payment turnover in July, up from 66.8% a year earlier.
