ChatGPT Adds Apple Messages Integration on Mac for iMessage and SMS
OpenAI has introduced new updates for ChatGPT and Codex, including a new Apple Messages integration on Mac that allows users to search, read and summarize conversations, as well as draft and send replies through the Messages app.
The integration is available through a new addition to the ChatGPT desktop application for macOS, giving ChatGPT Work and Codex access to iMessage, SMS and RCS conversations available on a Mac.
Users can ask the tools to locate specific conversations, summarize message content, prepare responses and send them directly through Apple’s Messages app.
Apple Silicon Required for Messages Integration
The feature requires the ChatGPT application running on Macs equipped with Apple Silicon processors. It is not currently available in regular ChatGPT conversations, through the web or mobile applications, or through Codex CLI and development environment extensions.
By default, the application asks users to approve the message content and recipients before a message is sent. Users can also grant permanent permission for a specific conversation, allowing future messages to be sent without requiring approval each time.
Codex Introduces Read-Only Conversation Sharing
OpenAI has also introduced a new sharing option for Codex users, allowing them to create read-only versions of their conversations and share them through a link.
The shared versions do not include tool calls or command-line inputs and outputs, enabling users to share conversation content without exposing those details.
At the same time, ChatGPT has begun syncing pinned Codex conversations between the desktop application and iPhones when users are signed into the same account.
The synchronization feature does not currently support Android devices.
