QNB Egypt Backs AASTMT’s Move Into Pre-University Education With Alexandria Campus Financing

QNB Egypt is financing around 71% of the funding requirements for a new international school campus being developed by the Arab Academy for Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT) in Amreya, Alexandria, supporting the academy’s expansion into pre-university education.

The long-term financing facility will help fund a campus designed to accommodate approximately 3,000 students once fully operational, as AASTMT moves beyond its established higher education activities to target Egypt’s growing international schools market.

The project will offer both British and American education systems, covering the full academic journey from Kindergarten through Senior School.

Plans include two academic buildings with a combined 150 classrooms, while AASTMT will equip the campus with laboratories, educational facilities and supporting infrastructure. Technology and artificial intelligence are also expected to be incorporated into the learning environment in line with international education standards.

A new market for AASTMT

The project represents a significant expansion of AASTMT’s education footprint, taking the institution into the pre-university segment and creating a pipeline that extends its activities across a broader range of educational stages.

Prof. Dr. Ismail Abdel Ghafar Ismail Farag, President of AASTMT, described the development as an important milestone in the academy’s strategy to broaden its educational services and increase its contribution to Egypt’s education sector.

He also highlighted AASTMT’s longstanding relationship with QNB Egypt, which stretches back more than four decades.

The relationship between the two institutions dates to 1984 and has covered a range of banking and financing services, with the latest facility extending that cooperation into a major education infrastructure project.

For QNB Egypt, the transaction forms part of a wider strategy of directing financing toward sectors where new investment can expand essential services and generate longer-term economic value.

Mohamed Bedeir, CEO of QNB Egypt, said the bank remains focused on financing projects capable of supporting sustainable growth across priority sectors.

“Through our financing solutions and strong client partnerships, we continue to enable investments that support growth across priority sectors,” Bedeir said.

With QNB Egypt covering approximately 71% of the project’s financing needs, the Amreya campus also illustrates the growing role of bank financing in supporting private investment in Egypt’s education infrastructure.

Once completed, the project will give AASTMT a foothold in a new segment of the education market, while adding capacity for around 3,000 students to Alexandria’s international education landscape.
