Google Acquires Bankrupt Spirit Airlines” Internal Operational Data for $10 Million to Train AI Models

Google is set to capitalize on an unconventional bankruptcy asset left behind by Spirit Airlines, having won an auction to acquire the defunct carrier's vast internal operational data for $10 million. The deal highlights the surging commercial value of proprietary corporate datasets in the artificial intelligence economy.

The acquired dataset comprises extensive institutional communications and workflows, including approximately 100 million internal emails and 500 million Microsoft Teams messages, alongside company spreadsheets, calendars, documents, marketing records, productivity files, and operational logs.

Google intends to leverage this wealth of corporate data to accelerate product development and train its next-generation artificial intelligence models. As part of the transaction terms, the data must be rigorously anonymized prior to final transfer, with all customer records and personally identifiable information (PII) strictly excluded.
