US Dollar Holds Steady Above EGP 50 in Early Monday Trade as FY 2025/26 Remittances Reach $39.2 Billion

The US Dollar maintained relative stability against the Egyptian Pound (EGP) in early trading on Monday, August 17, 2026, holding firm above the key EGP 50 threshold across state-owned and commercial banks in Egypt.

Foreign exchange performance remains closely monitored across local markets as a primary driver of domestic commodity prices and inflation dynamics, particularly given the market's reliance on imported goods and industrial inputs.

Remittance Growth Bolsters Balance of Payments

The currency's stability coincides with significant support from overseas worker remittances. Inflows from Egyptians working abroad surged by 33.2% during the first 10 months of FY 2025/2026 (July 2025 to April 2026), reaching $39.2 billion, up from $29.4 billion recorded during the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year.
