• The School Development Initiative will benefit more than 8,300 students by creating more supportive and engaging learning environments.
• The Children’s Education Initiative aims to enhance reading, writing, and comprehension skills for 1,500 primary school students.
Under the supervision of the Ministry of Education and Technical Education, Majid Al Futtaim, which owns the exclusive rights to operate Carrefour in Egypt, has entered into a strategic partnership with Educate Me Foundation. This high-impact collaboration is designed to modernize educational infrastructure and introduce advanced learning methodologies, reinforcing Majid Al Futtaim’s commitment to Egypt’s national vision for human and community development.
The partnership’s first pillar focuses on infrastructure modernization across several governorates, with the first phase successfully completing the refurbishment of key facilities in eight schools in seven governorates. This phase upgraded playgrounds, computer and science labs, and sanitation facilities, directly benefiting more than 8,300 students by creating a motivating and supportive learning environment. To ensure the sustainability of these improvements, each local Carrefour store has adopted its neighboring school, providing year-round engagement through regular monthly activities and continuous facility support to reinforce long-term community development and sustained progress. In parallel with the school renovation initiative, Majid Al Futtaim is launching the Children’s Education Initiative in Aswan Governorate in partnership with Educate Me Foundation. The programme is based on the “Teaching at the Right Level” (TaRL) methodology and aims to strengthen reading, writing, and comprehension skills for 1,500 primary school students while supporting children’s overall educational development through interactive learning activities tailored to their age groups and extending learning beyond the traditional classroom framework.
Commenting on the partnership, Mohamed Khafaga, Country Manager of Majid Al Futtaim Retail in Egypt, said: “At Majid Al Futtaim, we believe that the private sector plays an important role in addressing community needs, and we remain committed to leading initiatives that align with national goals, contribute to sustainable development, and create opportunities that strengthen communities across Egypt.”
He added: “This partnership reflects our continued investment in expanding access to quality education as a key pillar of sustainable development. By working closely with the Ministry of Education and Educate Me Foundation, we are contributing to the advancement of learning environments, bridging skill gaps, and enabling young generations in the country to reach their full potential.”
Eng. Christine Safwat, Executive Director, Educate Me Foundation said: “We believe at Educate Me Foundation that every child has the right to quality education, which enables them to break the cycle of poverty and build a better future. Our partnership with Majid Al Futtaim represents a true model of collaboration between the private sector and civil society in creating sustainable change in the education sector.”
She added: “Through the development of public-school infrastructure and strengthening literacy skills, one of the largest gaps children face in their learning journey, we are not only improving facilities; we are investing in children’s potential. We support their development throughout their school years both academically and psychologically, helping them build self-confidence and giving them a real opportunity to grow and succeed inside and beyond the classroom.”
This partnership reflects Majid Al Futtaim’s broader vision for Carrefour, positioning it as a proactive force within Egyptian society and a trusted partner in advancing education, empowering future generations, and contributing to a more sustainable future.
