The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has launched the second edition of the ECOWAS Startup Awards 2026, opening new avenues for regional tech enterprises to compete for a total cash prize pool of $65,000.

Hosted in Abuja, Nigeria, the initiative is organized by the ECOWAS Commission’s Private Sector and Industry Department. The program is jointly implemented by the Pan-African Alliance for SMEs (PAASME) and the ECOWAS Investment Promotion Agencies (EPAWAS). It seeks to empower startups driving digital transformation, regional integration, and sustainable value chains across West Africa.

The 2026 edition aims to cohort 60 high-impact startups from across ECOWAS member states. Participants will gain access to specialized training sessions, startup clinics, pitch competitions, exhibitions, B2B investor matchmaking, and a comprehensive 6-month post-competition accelerator program.

CleanTech: Clean energy, climate solutions, and green innovation.

TravelTech: Tech solutions for tourism, hospitality, and travel logistics.

Eligibility Criteria and Application Requirements

To qualify for the 2026 awards—which build upon the foundational inaugural edition held in Niamey, Niger in November 2021—applicants must meet strict operational and documentation criteria.

Founder & CompanyMust be an ECOWAS citizen; startup must be registered and headquartered in an ECOWAS member state.

Operational AgeMinimum of two years in active operation.

Market TractionMust possess a live, working product or service with proven market traction and clear scalability.

Core DocumentationCompleted Form (A-J), official ID/Passport (Max 10MB), and a recent color headshot (Max 5MB).

Business RecordsCompany registration certificate and two years of financial statements or projections.
