ICT, Supply Ministers Discuss Government Services Card System
Minister of Supply and Internal Trade Sherif Farouk and Minister of Communications and Information Technology Raafat Hendy have held a meeting to review progress on the Government Services Card system, as part of the government’s efforts to accelerate digital transformation and enhance public services. They also discussed ways to further develop the system and strengthen integration among the relevant entities, helping improve service efficiency and make it easier for citizens to access these services.
The meeting focused on the latest developments in the Government Services Card system, as well as technical and operational issues related to its development. Discussions also covered integration and data-sharing mechanisms among the participating entities and ways to leverage digital infrastructure and government databases to improve operational efficiency and the quality of services provided to citizens.
The meeting also reviewed plans to gradually expand the services offered through the card, further strengthening its role in driving digital transformation. The card enables citizens to access multiple government services through a single, secure digital channel, making procedures simpler, reducing the time and effort involved, and improving the overall service experience.
The Minister of Supply emphasized that developing the Government Services Card system is an important step in advancing the Ministry’s efforts to improve the food subsidy system and harness digital tools to deliver services more efficiently. This, he said, would help enhance the system’s accuracy and efficiency while making it easier for beneficiaries to access their entitlements and services.
Farouk added that the Ministry of Supply is working with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) and other entities to develop the technical and operational framework of food subsidy services offered through the Government Services Card. He added that the Ministry also aims to make use of integrated databases and technological infrastructure to improve how subsidies are delivered and raise service quality, noting that additional subsidized services may be introduced as implementation progresses, in a way that ensures operational efficiency and sustainable service delivery for citizens.
For his part, the ICT Minister emphasized that the Government Services Card system forms part of the government’s efforts to establish an integrated digital services ecosystem. He highlighted the importance of enhancing coordination among the entities involved and leveraging digital infrastructure and government databases to facilitate citizens’ access to services and improve government performance.
Hendy noted that the two Ministries are continuing their joint efforts to develop the system, strengthen its technical and operational capabilities, and gradually expand the range of services it offers. He added that these efforts are aimed at making fuller use of digital solutions and technologies to advance digital transformation and deliver government services to citizens more conveniently and securely.
The two Ministers agreed to maintain technical and operational coordination among the responsible teams at both Ministries and other relevant entities, and to continue overseeing the system's implementation. This is intended to ensure database integration and operational efficiency, support the government's digital transformation efforts, and further develop the range of public services.
Representing the Ministry of Supply, the meeting was attended by Assistant Minister of Supply and Internal Trade for Digital Services Mohamed Sheta and Assistant Minister for Technical Affairs and Official Spokesperson for the Ministry Ahmed Kamal.
From MCIT, the meeting was also attended by Assistant ICT Minister for Digital Transformation Mahmoud Badawi, Head of the Central Department for Automation Projects Mahmoud Fakhr El-Din, and Social Protection Program Manager and Government Services Card Project Manager Hala Imam.
