Nvidia Eyes Up to $3 Billion Investment in Energy Infrastructure Developer Lancium
Nvidia is planning to invest up to $3 billion in Lancium, the energy infrastructure developer behind the massive "Stargate" data center complex in Texas, according to a report published by The Information on Friday.
Investment Details and Valuation
According to the report, Nvidia will initially inject $2 billion in exchange for an approximately 20% stake in the Blackstone-backed Lancium.
Nvidia could invest an additional $1 billion if Lancium successfully meets specific performance milestones, including the completion of crucial power grid interconnections, the report noted, citing people familiar with the matter.
The Information pointed out that the prospective deal values Lancium’s enterprise—along with its extensive portfolio of land and power links—at roughly $10 billion.
These funds are expected to significantly aid Lancium in scaling its operations as the company actively explores the possibility of launching an initial public offering (IPO) in 2027.
The "Stargate" Project Context
The Stargate project is an ambitious joint venture between SoftBank, OpenAI, and Oracle aimed at developing next-generation data centers. U.S. President Donald Trump officially announced the initiative in January, stating that the involved tech giants would invest up to $500 billion to fund and build the robust infrastructure required for advanced artificial intelligence (AI).
