MCIT Introduces First DECI Self-Learning Program
The Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) has launched the first Self-Learning Program under Digital Egypt Cubs Initiative (DECI), aimed at developing technological skills among preparatory and secondary school students.
Delivered entirely online, the program enables Egyptian students, both within the country and abroad, to access training content at any time and from any location, thereby extending the initiative's reach.
Launched in May 2022 as part of the Digital Egypt Generations (DEG) initiatives, DECI has trained more than 168,000 students during the first half of this year alone.
The Self-Learning program reflects the government's broader commitment to human development, equipping Egyptian youth with digital and technological skills, strengthening the capabilities of future generations, and reinforcing MCIT's efforts to cultivate a highly capable talent pool positioned to explore new horizons in the ICT sector. In doing so, the initiative contributes to the realization of the national vision while keeping pace with future requirements.
To be eligible, students from the first year of preparatory school through the second year of secondary school must have achieved scores between 70% and 89% in English, mathematics, and science. Egyptian students residing abroad are subject to a distinct requirement: a minimum score of 70% in each of mathematics, science, and English during the previous academic year.
Each level follows a structured five-month timeframe, within which students may complete their training according to their own schedules. Specific criteria govern continued participation, with disqualification applied in cases of insufficient commitment.
The program further includes three live sessions per training period, allowing students to engage directly with expert instructors to raise questions and discuss course material.
The Self-Learning program is one of three programs offered under DECI. The others are the Basic Program, which spans six months during the academic year, and the Summer Program, which runs for two to three months during the summer break; each follows a distinct methodology and set of admission criteria.
Training is structured across five levels, covering contemporary technology tools and foundational concepts. The first level provides an introduction to computer science and information technology. The second offers a broader overview across five technology tracks, allowing students to identify areas of particular interest. From the third level onward, students select a single area of specialization, such as digital arts, software development, networks and information security, or artificial intelligence and robotics.
In addition to technical training, the program incorporates instruction in soft and leadership skills, including communication, time management, teamwork, leadership, entrepreneurship, and sustainable development. Students who successfully complete the program are awarded certificates issued by MCIT.
