Emirates NBD Shares Climb 2.25% on DFM Following Acquisition of HSBC’s Retail Operations in Egypt

 Shares of Emirates NBD rose by 2.25% during Monday's trading session on the Dubai Financial Market (DFM), fueled by the bank's announcement of its acquisition of HSBC’s retail banking business in Egypt.

On Sunday, Emirates NBD - Egypt announced the signing of definitive agreements to acquire the retail banking operations of HSBC Egypt. This strategic move aims to significantly strengthen the bank's footprint in the Egyptian market. The transaction remains subject to customary closing conditions, including the receipt of all necessary regulatory approvals.

According to a statement released by the bank, the acquisition encompasses the transfer of the retail banking portfolio, the associated network of branches, and automated teller machines (ATMs). The deal also includes the transfer of the respective customer base and dedicated staff. This expansion is set to substantially bolster Emirates NBD - Egypt's market position across both the retail and premium banking sectors.
