Egypt Post Disburses Pensions to 5.24 Million Beneficiaries in May 2026 Amid Decline in Number of Offices

 The number of pensions disbursed through Egypt Post offices increased to approximately 5.24 million beneficiaries in May 2026, up from 5.1 million in May 2025. This marks a year-on-year increase of about 140,000 beneficiaries, reflecting an annual growth rate of 2.75%.

According to data from the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), the number of beneficiaries receiving pensions via post offices experienced a slight monthly decline of 1.13%, compared to roughly 5.3 million beneficiaries in April 2026.

Decline in Operating Post Offices

Conversely, the total number of operational post offices across Egypt decreased to 4,653 in May 2026, down from 4,718 in May 2025. This represents a drop of 65 offices over the course of a year, equating to an annual decline of 1.38%.

Month-on-month, the number of post offices saw a marginal decrease of 0.06%, down from 4,656 offices recorded in April 2026.

24,000 Citizens Served Per Office

With the reduction in branches, the average number of citizens served by each post office rose to approximately 24,050 individuals in May 2026, compared to 23,320 in May 2025, recording an annual growth of 3.11%.

On a monthly basis, this average increased by 0.20%, up from an estimated 24,000 citizens per office in April 2026.

Fluctuations in Postal Transfers

The volume of instant domestic postal transfers reached approximately 456,000 transactions by the end of May 2026, compared to 509,000 transfers at the end of May 2025, marking a significant year-on-year decrease of 10.40%.

However, on a monthly basis, the number of instant domestic postal transfers surged by 8.62%, recovering from approximately 420,000 transfers in April 2026, according to the combined data released by the MCIT and Egypt Post.
