UAE and Egypt Agree Five-Year Expansion of Air Transport Rights
The United Arab Emirates and Egypt have agreed to gradually expand bilateral air transport rights over the next five years, opening the door to increased flight capacity and new opportunities for airlines serving one of the region’s busiest travel corridors.
The agreement establishes a phased framework for widening air services between the two countries in line with rising passenger demand and continued growth in bilateral aviation traffic. It is also expected to support tourism, trade and investment by improving connectivity between Egyptian and Emirati cities.
The deal was signed on the sidelines of the 11th ICAO Africa Week in Cairo by Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director-General of the UAE General Civil Aviation Authority, and Captain Sameh Fawzy, President of the Egyptian Civil Aviation Authority.
Under the framework, additional operating rights will be introduced progressively rather than through an immediate full expansion, allowing aviation authorities and carriers to respond to market demand while maintaining operational efficiency.
The two sides said the agreement would provide airlines with greater scope to increase services, explore new routes and respond more flexibly to growth in passenger traffic.
The expansion is expected to benefit carriers operating between the two markets while giving travellers a wider choice of flights and potentially improving connections through the UAE’s international aviation hubs to destinations in Asia and other global markets.
The agreement also reflects the broader economic relationship between Egypt and the UAE, with air connectivity playing an important role in supporting tourism flows, business travel and commercial exchange.
As both countries continue investing in airport infrastructure and expanding their aviation sectors, the phased increase in traffic rights is expected to strengthen their position within regional and international air transport networks.
