Samsung Display Secures Exclusive Apple Contract for Next-Gen OLED MacBook Pro

Samsung Display has secured an exclusive contract to supply all OLED panels for Apple’s next-generation MacBook Pro models, marking a notable departure from the tech giant’s traditional strategy of diversifying its supply chain among multiple vendors.

Under the agreement, Samsung Display will exclusively manufacture and supply 14-inch and 16-inch OLED screens for the upcoming laptops. The new MacBook Pro line is expected to launch in late Q4 2026 or early 2027, with initial production volumes estimated at 2 million to 2.5 million panels during the first year.

Production Schedule and Exclusive Deal

Mass production of the panels will commence in the third quarter of 2026 on Samsung’s state-of-the-art Gen 8.6 production line. Apple opted for a single-supplier approach after Samsung Display outperformed competitor LG Display in yield efficiency, manufacturing readiness, and technological specifications.

Next-Gen Display Specifications & Features

The upcoming MacBook Pro lineup will introduce significant hardware and display upgrades:

Hybrid Tandem OLED Technology: Combines a dual-stack OLED architecture with oxide thin-film transistors (TFT) to deliver higher brightness, lower power consumption, and longer operational lifespan—similar to the technology featured in recent iPad Pro models.

Built-in Touch Support: Introduces touchscreen capabilities to the MacBook Pro for the first time by embedding the touch layer directly within the display panel.

Form Factor and Performance: Enables a thinner and lighter chassis, powered by Apple’s upcoming M6 processors to deliver enhanced battery efficiency and computational performance for creative and technical professionals.

Market Growth and Competitor Outlook

Market research indicates rapid adoption of Hybrid OLED technology in laptops, with its market share projected to surge from 12.6% in 2026 to 89.5% by 2033.

Meanwhile, LG Display is not expected to enter Apple’s OLED MacBook Pro supply chain until 2029 at the earliest. However, LG will continue supplying LCD panels for existing MacBook models and OLED screens for the iPad Pro line.
