ICT Minister Opens Konecta Regional Office in Cairo
Minister of Communications and Information Technology Raafat Hendy has opened Konecta’s regional office in New Cairo, as part of the company’s $100 million expansion plan in Egypt.
The plan is also intended to position Egypt as the company’s regional hub serving customers across the Middle East, Africa, Europe, and the Americas, in areas including digital customer experience (CX), artificial intelligence (AI), data analytics, technical support, and the Internet of Things (IoT).
The opening ceremony was attended by Vice Chairman for the Middle East and Africa at Konecta Ahmad Elharany, CEO of the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA) Ahmed Elzaher, and senior officials from the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), ITIDA, and Konecta.
Konecta is a leading global service provider in customer management business process and digital outsourcing. Its new office serves as a strategic hub for its global operations and is home to its first-ever Global Center of Excellence for Generative AI. The center is responsible for designing, developing, and deploying advanced AI solutions to support the company's operations worldwide, further strengthening Egypt's position as a regional hub for AI innovation.
The Cairo office employs around 800 highly skilled Egyptian professionals, who deliver AI-driven digital CX and multilingual customer management services in Arabic, English, French, German, Italian, Spanish, and Dutch. Konecta’s Egyptian team also develops and delivers solutions in digital transformation, big data analytics, cybersecurity, IoT, and technical support. The company plans to expand its Egyptian workforce to around 3,000 professionals by the end of 2028, supporting its strategy to deliver services to global markets from Egypt.
The ICT Minister pointed to growing investment from global companies in Egypt's outsourcing industry as evidence of the country's progress in building an integrated ecosystem that continues to attract new investment and deliver high-value digital services to global markets. Egypt's selection to host Konecta's first global GenAI center, he added, reflects the Ministry's efforts to encourage companies to expand their exports of advanced technology, particularly AI-driven solutions.
As global firms deepen their presence in Egypt's ICT sector, Hendy highlighted, they bring international expertise to young Egyptian talent, create strong job opportunities, and draw in further investment, reinforcing Egypt's position as a global hub for high-value outsourcing. He also reaffirmed MCIT’s commitment to growing the outsourcing industry and expanding digital services exports through continued efforts to attract investment, build digital skills among young talent, and shape a workforce equipped to meet global market demands.
Touring the New Cairo office, the ICT Minister was briefed on several advanced digital solutions developed by Konecta across AI, CX, and outsourcing fields, most notably Kolibri, the company’s agentic AI platform. He praised the Egyptian teams behind the design, testing, and local development of these solutions, pointing to the strength of Egyptian talent in AI and digital transformation and its capacity to deliver advanced, multilingual digital services to global markets. The growing role Egyptian professionals play in global service centers, he noted, speaks to the continued growth of Egypt's digital capacity-building ecosystem.
For his part, Konecta’s Vice Chairman for MEA highlighted that Egypt is more than just an operational office for Konecta; it is the company’s regional hub and home to its first global GenAI center. Elharany added that the Egypt team has grown to 800 professionals and is expected to reach 1,000 by the end of this year, reflecting the depth of Egyptian talent and the growing confidence customers around the world place in the services delivered from Cairo.
ITIDA’s CEO explained that Konecta's expansion in Egypt is part of the Agency’s strategic partnerships and ongoing collaboration with leading multinational companies to support the continued growth of service exports to global markets from Egypt. He added that this expansion contributes to creating high-quality jobs and increasing outsourcing exports.
Elzaher emphasized that hosting the company's global GenAI center reflects the broader shift toward high-value digital services. It also highlights Egypt's growing capabilities in advanced technologies, particularly AI, further strengthening the country's position as a leading global hub for outsourcing and digital service exports.
It is worth noting that the opening marks the culmination of the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed by ITIDA and Konecta Group in January 2025, in the presence of Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly. The MoU laid the foundation for the company's operations in Egypt and the establishment of a regional hub serving the Middle East, Africa, Europe, and the Americas.
