Egypt’s Investment Minister Explores Boosting Exports to Africa with DP World

Dr. Mohamed Farid, Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, held an expanded meeting with a delegation from DP World, led by Mohamed Shehab, CEO of DP World Egypt and Levant. The discussions focused on leveraging the global logistics giant's trade and operational infrastructure to facilitate the entry of Egyptian products into international markets, with a primary focus on expanding access across Africa.

The high-level meeting brought together key leaders across Egypt's trade ecosystem, including the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI), the Export Development Authority, the Export Development Fund, and the Commercial Representation Service, alongside heads and representatives of Egyptian export councils. The gathering aimed to establish direct partnerships between domestic exporters and DP World to optimize supply chain efficiency and reduce market entry costs.

Strategic Focus on Priority Export Sectors

Dr. Farid emphasized that the ministry is pursuing a policy grounded in active partnerships between the exporting community and major global transportation and supply chain providers. Highlighting that advanced logistics solutions are crucial to boosting trade competitiveness, the collaboration targets priority export sectors, including:

Food Industries

Agricultural Produce

Chemicals

Building Materials

Ready-Made Garments

Engineering Industries

Dr. Farid noted that Africa represents a cornerstone of Egypt's export expansion strategy, bolstered by free trade agreements connecting Egypt with numerous African nations. Partnering with global operators like DP World provides practical logistics solutions to scale Egyptian commercial activity across the continent.

"Establishing direct partnerships between export councils and DP World allows each sector to analyze its specific needs and utilize comprehensive transport, warehousing, and supply chain management services to unlock new markets for Egyptian products," Dr. Farid stated.

DP World's Operational Footprint in Egypt

Mohamed Shehab, CEO of DP World Egypt and Levant, outlined the group's global presence, noting that DP World operates in more than 85 countries and handles approximately 10% of global trade. In Egypt, roughly 23% of the nation’s foreign trade passes through Sokhna Port, operated by the group.

Shehab highlighted that DP World has evolved beyond port management into an end-to-end logistics ecosystem, covering maritime and land freight, warehouse management, market distribution, and supply chain solutions.

He reaffirmed the group's ongoing strategic investments in Egypt, anchored by the development of Sokhna Port and the construction of the Sokhna Logistics Park, reinforcing Egypt's position as a regional hub for trade, re-exporting, and logistics services.
