Mubadala Capital Opens Blockchain-Based Access to Private Markets Fund

Mubadala Capital has partnered with Coinbase and digital infrastructure company KAIO to create a tokenized version of its private markets investment fund, offering eligible investors a new digital route into traditionally less accessible asset classes.

The initiative will convert interests in the Mubadala Capital Evergreen Private Markets Fund into regulated digital tokens recorded and managed through blockchain technology. Each token will represent an investment stake in the underlying fund, while retaining the regulatory controls and eligibility requirements associated with private market products.

KAIO will provide the technical infrastructure needed to issue and administer the digital tokens, while Coinbase will contribute its expertise in digital assets and blockchain-based financial services.

The move is intended to simplify access to private market investments, improve transaction efficiency and provide greater transparency in the management of fund interests. It also reflects growing institutional interest in the tokenization of real-world assets, including investment funds, equities and property.

Unlike cryptocurrencies, tokenized fund units are backed by an existing financial asset and operate within a regulated investment structure. The model can reduce administrative complexity and make ownership records easier to manage, while potentially enabling more flexible settlement and transfer processes.

The partnership marks another step in the expansion of blockchain technology beyond cryptocurrency trading and into mainstream asset management, as sovereign investment institutions and global financial companies explore digital infrastructure for issuing and managing conventional investments.
