Egyptian Exchange Gains EGP 64 Billion in Shortened Holiday Trading Week
The Egyptian Exchange (EGX) posted market capitalization gains of approximately EGP 64 billion during this week’s four-session trading period, shortened due to the July 23 Revolution official holiday.
The total market capitalization of listed companies climbed 1.6% to reach EGP 3.951 trillion, up from EGP 3.887 trillion in the previous week, according to the EGX weekly report.
Indices Record Across-the-Board Rises
All primary and secondary market indices posted collective gains:
EGX 30 (Main Index): Advanced 1.9% to close at 53,931.92 points.
EGX 70 EWI (Small & Medium Enterprises): Jumped 3.85% to reach 17,706.12 points.
EGX 100 EWI (Broader Market Index): Grew 3.1% to settle at 23,597.48 points.
Trading Value and Asset Breakdown
Total trading value contracted to EGP 596.9 billion with 15.435 million securities traded across 1.048 million transactions. This compares to EGP 682.9 billion generated through 18.091 million securities traded across 1.156 million transactions during the preceding week.
Within the main market (inside the cabin):
Equities: Accounted for 8.91% of total trading value.
Bonds & Treasury Bills: Dominated trading activity, representing 91.09% of total turnover.
Investor Demographics and Net Activity
Excluding block trades and special deals, investor participation in listed equities broke down as follows:
Egyptian Investors: Generated 90.5% of total stock transactions.
Foreign Investors: Accounted for 6.0% of activity, recording a net buying position of EGP 430.1 million.
Arab Investors: Represented 3.5% of transactions, recording a net selling position of EGP 87.7 million.
