Egypt Named Observer to Council of Europe Digital Technologies Committee
Egypt has been granted observer status on the Council of Europe's (CoE) Steering Committee for New and Emerging Digital Technologies (CDNET), following a decision by CoE's Committee of Ministers at its meeting in early July.
An Egyptian delegation is set to attend CDNET's next meeting, taking place July 21–23.
The move builds on ongoing efforts by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT) to strengthen Egypt's presence in international forums on emerging digital technologies, and reflects deepening ties with European institutions in the field.
MCIT has been an active participant in CoE initiatives in recent years, including South Programme V "Protecting human rights, rule of law and democracy through shared standards in the Southern Mediterranean," the Human Rights Education for Legal Professionals (HELP) program, and international training on the HUDERIA methodology for assessing the human rights, democracy, and rule-of-law impact of AI systems. The Ministry also took part in the 2025 Lisbon Forum and a range of other CoE events on artificial intelligence and data protection.
