US Oil Rig Count Posts Longest Non-Declining Streak in More Than Four Years
Drilling activity in U.S. oil fields has recorded its longest uninterrupted period without a decline in the number of active oil rigs in more than four years, supporting the expansion of shale oil production amid higher crude prices driven by the conflict with Iran.
The number of active oil rigs in the United States increased by seven this week to 452 rigs, marking the 12th consecutive week without a decline. According to data released by Baker Hughes on Friday, this is the longest such streak since January 2022.
The sustained increase reverses months of declining rig counts throughout 2025, when concerns over slowing shale oil production weighed on drilling activity. The latest rise suggests U.S. shale producers are responding more aggressively to the continued strength in oil prices by expanding drilling operations
