Vodafone Egypt, General Authority for Healthcare Sign Strategic Partnership to Strengthen Digital Health Infrastructure
Vodafone Egypt and Egypt's General Authority for Healthcare (GAH) have signed a new cooperation protocol aimed at strengthening the digital and telecommunications infrastructure across the Authority's healthcare facilities, supporting smart hospital operations and accelerating the digital transformation of the country's Universal Health Insurance System.
The protocol signing was witnessed by Dr. Ahmed El Sobky, Chairman of the General Authority for Healthcare and Supervisor General of the Universal Health Insurance Project, in the presence of Ayman El Saadany, Head of External Affairs at Vodafone Egypt, and Osama Abdel Razek, Government Relations Manager at Vodafone Egypt.
Senior officials from the Authority attending the signing included Dr. Wael Omran, Head of the Central Administration for Supply Affairs, and Dr. Moamen Ashmawy, Strategic Projects Advisor to the Chairman.
The partnership is designed to enhance telecommunications services within healthcare facilities, improve their readiness for smart operations, and strengthen the digital infrastructure required to support the continued expansion of Egypt's Universal Health Insurance System.
Commenting on the agreement, Dr. Ahmed El Sobky praised Vodafone Egypt's strategic partnership with the Authority, noting that the company has played a key role in supporting the digital transformation of healthcare facilities during the first phase of the Universal Health Insurance rollout.
He added that the collaboration will continue as the program expands into its second phase, beginning with Minya Governorate, the first governorate included in the next implementation stage.
El Sobky highlighted Egypt's progress in digital healthcare, stating that the country has developed a fully integrated Health Information System (HIS) covering secondary and tertiary healthcare services rather than isolated digital platforms. He noted that Egypt has been recognized as the first country in Africa and the Middle East to establish a healthcare system of this scale in line with HIMSS international standards and accreditation.
He stressed that expanding the Universal Health Insurance System into additional governorates requires continuous investment in digital infrastructure and stronger partnerships with technology providers to ensure healthcare facilities remain fully equipped for efficient and sustainable service delivery.
For his part, Ayman El Saadany, Head of External Affairs at Vodafone Egypt, said the agreement builds on a long-standing strategic partnership with the General Authority for Healthcare and reflects Vodafone Egypt's commitment to supporting the country's digital transformation agenda in critical sectors.
He emphasized that Vodafone's role extends beyond providing telecommunications services to developing robust digital infrastructure that enables essential public services. He added that the new protocol will help improve the efficiency and sustainability of communications services in priority areas while enhancing the operational readiness of healthcare facilities to meet the growing demands of digital healthcare.
The agreement forms part of the General Authority for Healthcare's broader strategy to expand collaboration with the private sector, accelerate digital transformation, and create a modern operational environment capable of supporting the nationwide rollout of the Universal Health Insurance System in line with Egypt's vision for a sustainable, technology-driven healthcare sector.
