ANOPC Successfully Energizes First Power Station at Assiut Diesel Production Complex

The Egyptian General Petroleum Corporation (EGPC) announced the successful energization of the first power station at the diesel production units of the Assiut National Oil Processing Company (ANOPC). The milestone event was attended by Eng. Ibrahim Metawea, EGPC Executive Vice President for Planning and Projects; Eng. Wael Rizk, EGPC Executive Vice President for Refining and Processing; Eng. Mohamed Abdullah Hassan, Chairman of ANOPC; and Eng. Issa Mohamed Alaq, Chairman of the Assiut Oil Refining Company (ASORC).

This energization comes as part of the ongoing construction and installation works at the new petroleum complex in Upper Egypt, paving the way for the commencement of commissioning and trial operations.

The Assiut Diesel Production Complex (Mazut Hydrocracking Complex) is designed to convert mazut produced by ASORC into high-value, premium-quality petroleum products. It will process 2.5 million tons of mazut annually and treat 1.2 million tons of middle distillates. The new complex's annual production capacity stands at 2.8 million tons of Euro V-compliant diesel, 400,000 tons of naphtha for gasoline production, and 100,000 tons of LPG, in addition to 330,000 tons of petroleum coke and 66,000 tons of sulfur as by-products.

The complex's units were designed utilizing the latest refining and hydrocracking technologies, adhering to the highest environmental standards. These advanced technologies contribute to lowering energy consumption, reducing emissions, and recycling industrial wastewater, alongside other techniques aimed at value optimization and environmental protection.

This mega petroleum project significantly contributes to the development of Upper Egypt by opening new investment horizons and creating direct and indirect job opportunities for the local population. A comprehensive capacity-building program has been implemented for fresh engineering and technical graduates from top universities and technical schools in Assiut and neighboring governorates, preparing them to join the new complex's operations teams. This is in addition to the company's Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities in surrounding villages.

During the visit, officials emphasized the project's immense added value to the national economy and the petroleum industry, highlighting its vital role in bolstering the geographical petroleum zone in Upper Egypt and serving the local communities.

The vice presidents' visit also included a coordination meeting to review workflow, alongside a field tour to assess ASORC's readiness to feed ANOPC, inspect joint tie-in points, monitor execution progress, and review the implementation of the process safety management system. The tour covered ASORC’s operational areas, including the gasoline complex, distillation units, control rooms, and chemical laboratories, concluding with a walkthrough of ANOPC’s ongoing construction sites.
