El-Khanagry, Delmar Partner to Localize Smart Sunroof Systems in Egypt

El-Khanagry Group for Automotive Feeding Industries and Delmar Automotive, a subsidiary of Delmar Industrial Group, have signed a strategic partnership to develop, manufacture, assemble, and supply smart automotive sunroof systems in Egypt with a local content ratio exceeding 75%.

The project aims to support Egypt’s automotive localization strategy, reduce dependence on imported components, and meet the needs of vehicle manufacturers and assemblers operating in the local market. The partners also plan to target export opportunities across regional and international markets.

The agreement was signed in the presence of Raafat El-Khanagry, CEO of El-Khanagry Group, and Daniel El-Khanagry, Projects Director, alongside Mahmoud Haroun, Chairman and Managing Director of Delmar Industrial Group, and Sayed Emara, General Manager of Delmar Automotive.

The companies said the partnership will establish Egypt’s first integrated industrial model combining the production of specialized automotive glass with the local manufacture and assembly of the mechanical, electrical, and motorized components used in smart sunroof systems.

Under the agreement, Delmar Automotive will design and manufacture the specialized glass required for the systems, while El-Khanagry Group will produce and assemble the mechanical and electrical components and motors. The final product will be marketed as a fully integrated “Made in Egypt” system.

Raafat El-Khanagry said the project represents a significant step in the development of Egypt’s automotive components industry, with the objective extending beyond import substitution to building an industrial base capable of competing in regional and global markets.

The first phase is scheduled to begin production in the first quarter of 2027, with an initial annual capacity of 30,000 units. Production capacity is expected to increase gradually to 150,000 units annually by 2028, with part of the output allocated for export.

Mahmoud Haroun said the partnership forms part of Delmar Industrial Group’s strategy to expand into advanced automotive components and support the Egyptian government’s plans to deepen local manufacturing and increase industrial exports.

Founded in 1979, Delmar Industrial Group is continuing to invest in industrial and technological projects aimed at strengthening domestic supply chains and developing products capable of competing in international markets.

Delmar Automotive represents the group’s latest investment in the automotive sector through an integrated plant in Sadat City. The facility is being developed in accordance with international standards on a targeted area of up to 115,000 square meters, positioning it among the region’s largest specialized automotive glass manufacturing projects.

Sayed Emara said the factory will use advanced automotive glass manufacturing technologies, including tempered and laminated glass, as well as digital printing technologies used in modern vehicle production.

He added that the project is designed not only to introduce a new locally manufactured product but also to transfer technology and technical expertise, develop the domestic supply chain, and support Egypt’s ambition to become a regional hub for high-value automotive components.

The project is expected to help reduce Egypt’s import bill, increase the share of locally manufactured components, create direct and indirect employment opportunities, and strengthen the automotive sector’s export capabilities.

Electromechanical sunroof systems are considered among the most technically complex automotive components, as they integrate specialized glass with mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems. Their local production therefore represents an advanced step in Egypt’s efforts to build an integrated and competitive automotive industry.
