Egypt’s East Nile Monorail Welcomes Passengers at Half-Price This Weekend to Promote Green Commuting
The East Nile Monorail is officially welcoming commuters today (Thursday), tomorrow (Friday), and Saturday at half-price. The initiative, launched by the Ministry of Transportation, is designed to encourage citizens to adopt smart, green transit systems while providing an accessible avenue to explore the landmarks of the New Administrative Capital (NAC).
The operational update extends the Ministry’s decree implementing a flat 50% discount on full-fare tickets for passengers utilizing the monorail’s first phase. This promotional pricing aligns with the pre-determined schedule of the three-month campaign, which explicitly activates during:
Fridays and Saturdays of every week.
All official national public holidays.
Strategic Objectives and System Advantages Through this initiative, the Ministry of Transportation aims to solidify a consumer culture centered on sustainable mass transit, delivering distinct macroeconomic and lifestyle advantages:
Decongesting Traffic: Incentivizing citizens to bypass private vehicle usage in favor of automated, smart transit alternatives.
Optimizing Commute Times: Providing state-of-the-art, fully equipped train fleets that drastically minimize travel times to the New Capital.
Economical Mobility: Supplying flexible, budget-friendly transit alternatives tailored to all socio-economic demographics.
Operational Station Network The monorail network currently services commuters across 16 fully operational and equipped stations, indexed as follows: (El-Mosheer Tantawy, One Ninety, Air Force Hospital, Al-Narges, Al-Mostasmerin, Al-Lotus, Golden Square, Beit Al-Watan, Al-Fattah Al-Aleem Mosque, R1 District, R2 District, Financial & Business District, Arts & Culture City, Government District, Misr Mosque, and Justice City).
Subscriptions and Concessionary Fares The Ministry re-affirmed that baseline rates for periodic commuter subscriptions (weekly, monthly, and quarterly) remain unchanged. Furthermore, institutional concessionary discounts allocated for senior citizens (aged 60 and above) and individuals with special needs remain fully active, ensuring premium service delivery at highly accessible price points.
