Group-IB Regional Director Warns: Mobile Phones Have Become a Primary Target for Cyberattacks

The regional director of cybersecurity company Group-IB warned that mobile phones have become one of the main targets for cybercriminals amid the rapid expansion of digital services, mobile banking, cloud applications, and AI-powered cyber threats.

Speaking during the CAISEC cybersecurity summit, the executive said smartphones are increasingly being targeted due to the massive amount of personal, financial, and business data stored on mobile devices, alongside their growing role in daily digital activities.

He explained that cybercriminals are now focusing heavily on mobile-based attacks including phishing campaigns, malicious applications, spyware, account hijacking, banking malware, and identity theft operations.

“Mobile devices are no longer just communication tools. They have evolved into digital wallets, business platforms, authentication gateways, and personal data hubs, making them highly attractive targets for cyber attackers,” the Group-IB executive stated.

According to the company, the growing use of mobile payment services, digital banking applications, social media platforms, and remote work solutions has significantly expanded the cyber threat landscape surrounding smartphones and connected devices.

The executive also warned that artificial intelligence technologies are enabling cybercriminals to launch more advanced and personalized attacks, including AI-generated phishing messages, deepfake voice scams, and automated social engineering campaigns.

Group-IB highlighted that many users continue to underestimate mobile cybersecurity risks despite increasing attack sophistication and rising global cybercrime activity targeting smartphones.

The company stressed the importance of adopting stronger cybersecurity practices, including multi-factor authentication, regular software updates, secure application downloads, and advanced mobile threat protection solutions.

During the summit, Group-IB showcased cybersecurity technologies focused on fraud prevention, digital risk protection, threat intelligence, and AI-powered threat detection systems designed to help organizations and users strengthen digital resilience.

Industry experts attending CAISEC emphasized that mobile security has become a strategic component of broader cybersecurity frameworks as organizations accelerate digital transformation and expand remote digital services.

CAISEC continues to host discussions on AI-driven cyber threats, cloud security, digital sovereignty, critical infrastructure protection, and the future governance challenges associated with emerging digital technologies.

The summit has evolved into one of the largest cybersecurity and digital sovereignty gatherings across Africa and the Middle East, bringing together global cybersecurity companies, government agencies, technology leaders, and industry specialists to discuss the future of digital protection in an increasingly connected world.
