Telecom Egypt and Huawei Launch FTTR Technology to Enhance Home Fiber Connectivity in Egypt

Telecom Egypt (WE) and Huawei have announced the launch of Fiber-to-the-Room (FTTR) technology in Egypt, introducing a new home connectivity solution designed to extend fiber-optic coverage throughout residential spaces and improve wireless network performance.

The new FTTR service aims to strengthen in-home internet coverage by delivering fiber connectivity directly to different rooms inside the house, helping reduce Wi-Fi dead zones and ensuring more stable and consistent network performance across connected devices.

According to the companies, the technology is designed to enhance signal quality and support growing demand for high-speed internet services, smart home applications, streaming platforms, online gaming, and bandwidth-intensive digital services.

Mohamed El-Tony, Vice President for Consumer Commercial Affairs at Telecom Egypt, said the launch represents an important milestone within the company’s broader strategy to expand Egypt’s digital infrastructure and introduce advanced connectivity technologies to the local market.

El-Tony noted that the partnership with Huawei reflects Telecom Egypt’s commitment to improving customer experience and supporting the increasing demand for reliable, high-performance internet connectivity across households.

The FTTR solution relies on extending fiber-optic networks inside homes rather than depending solely on traditional wireless routers, enabling stronger coverage, lower latency, and improved network stability.

Industry experts say FTTR technologies are becoming increasingly important globally as consumers rely more heavily on connected devices, cloud services, remote work platforms, and smart home ecosystems that require stable high-speed internet access throughout residential environments.

The launch also aligns with Egypt’s broader digital transformation strategy and ongoing investments in fiber-optic infrastructure aimed at improving internet quality and expanding broadband capabilities nationwide.

Huawei continues to strengthen its cooperation with telecommunications operators across the Middle East and Africa through investments in next-generation network technologies, digital infrastructure, and smart connectivity solutions.
