Egypt to Host 3rd African Youth AI and Robotics Competition Under MCIT Auspices

Egypt is set to host the third edition of the African Presidential Youth Competition in Artificial Intelligence and Robotics 2026. Organized in cooperation with the African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD) and the Ele-vate AI Africa initiative, the event is held under the auspices of the Egyptian Ministry of Communications and Information Technology (MCIT), reflecting Egypt's growing efforts to drive digital transformation and foster innovation across the African continent.

Global Partnerships and Strategic Goals A prominent group of regional and international organizations is co-organizing the competition, including the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), the African Development Bank (AfDB), the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA), and the African Export-Import Bank (Afreximbank), alongside several leading global ICT corporations.

The competition stands as one of the premier continental initiatives aimed at enhancing Africa's leadership in the Fourth Industrial Revolution. It targets African youth aged 18 to 35, encouraging them to innovate solutions based on AI, robotics, and emerging technologies to tackle developmental challenges across the continent and support sustainable development pathways.

Furthermore, the competition provides an interactive platform to transform innovative concepts into functional applications while offering networking avenues connecting young innovators with investors, policymakers, and industry leaders. It also supports efforts to establish the regulatory frameworks and funding mechanisms necessary for Africa's digital transformation and industrialization, in alignment with the African Union's Agenda 2063. The initiative's broader goals include supporting efforts to eradicate hunger, ensure food security, prevent and control public health diseases, safeguard African space, enhance digital connectivity, and build knowledge-based, innovative societies.

12 Key Themes and the Presidential Prize This year’s edition features 12 key thematic tracks covering vital sectors: healthcare, education, agriculture, mining, climate change, construction and architecture, FinTech, AI ethics, robotics design, and quantum computing, alongside an open category.

The grand prize—the Presidential Award—will be granted to the most outstanding innovations capable of delivering a tangible, sustainable impact and supporting inclusive growth across the continent. Finalists in this category will be honored during the AI for Good Global Summit, organized by the ITU in July. By hosting this competition, Egypt continues to cement its leadership in regional digital innovation through national initiatives and an ambitious vision to cultivate an integrated ecosystem for advanced technologies. The application deadline is set for June 30, 2026, and further details can be accessed via the official link: (https://tinyurl.com/mwxrb66f).
