CIB CEO Hisham Ezz Al-Arab Rules Out Taking Over Egypt’s Central Bank Governor Role
Hisham Ezz Al-Arab, CEO of the Commercial International Bank (CIB) Egypt, has stated that he is not a suitable candidate for the position of Governor of the Central Bank of Egypt. In an interview with "CNN Business," Ezz Al-Arab explained that the role requires a unique skill set that goes beyond banking expertise, necessitating political and diplomatic acumen to navigate complex economic dossiers.
He emphasized that running a central bank differs significantly from managing commercial banks, as a governor must engage not only with the banking sector but also with the government, global markets, and international institutions. Ezz Al-Arab noted that his straightforward and blunt communication style might not be the most appropriate for a role that demands delicate balancing acts and managing high-stakes political sensitivities.
