US Dollar Shows Mixed Performance Against EGP; Emirates NBD Marks Daily Low at 52.68

The US Dollar (USD) exhibited varied movements against the Egyptian Pound (EGP) during Wednesday’s trading session, reflecting a highly active and transparent interbank market. The greenback touched its intraday low at Emirates NBD, trading at EGP 52.68 for purchase and EGP 52.78 for sale. This trend was mirrored across several major institutions, including CIB, Bank Next, and AlexBank, where the dollar retreated to EGP 52.78 (buy), signaling a slight appreciation of the local currency amid improved foreign currency inflows.

Market observers attribute this volatility to the continued implementation of a flexible exchange rate regime, which has successfully harmonized official rates with market realities. While some banks, such as The United Bank and Al Baraka Bank, maintained slightly higher levels at EGP 52.85, the overall market direction suggests a corrective phase following recent global currency fluctuations. The stability in some sectors combined with selective retreats in others underscores the resilience of the Egyptian banking system in managing liquidity efficiently in 2026.
