Hurghada International Airport Debuts as Regional Hub with First Transit Flight for Niger Pilgrims
Hurghada International Airport successfully processed its first international transit operation under the new "Hub Airport" framework, welcoming 305 pilgrims from Niamey, Niger, en route to Medina, Saudi Arabia. This milestone marks a strategic shift in Egypt's aviation policy, transforming regional airports into pivotal connection points that link African destinations with international hubs via Egyptian airspace.
The seamless operation was executed in coordination with Air Cairo, which handled the onward journey to Medina. Under the directives of Dr. Sameh El-Hefny, Minister of Civil Aviation, and the supervision of Capt. Wael El-Nashar, Chairman of the Egyptian Airports Company (EAC), the airport demonstrated high readiness in operational, health, and security logistics. This "Hub" model is designed to diversify operational patterns and maximize the efficiency of Egypt's air network, solidifying its position as a primary regional aviation gateway.
