Egypt’s Food Export Council Hosts Workshop on EU Pesticide Regulations to Support Export Compliance

As part of its ongoing efforts to expand Egyptian food exports to international markets, particularly the European Union, the Food Export Council of Egypt organized an interactive workshop in collaboration with the Central Laboratory for Analysis of Pesticide Residues and Heavy Metals in Food (QCAP).

Held at the Council’s headquarters, the workshop focused on chemical contaminants in food and the latest European Union regulations governing pesticide residues. The initiative reflects the Council’s commitment to supporting Egyptian exporters in meeting stringent EU requirements and avoiding shipment rejections.

Participants were briefed on evolving EU policies, emphasizing that compliance with Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs) alone is no longer sufficient. Under current EU rules, food products containing residues of pesticides that are not approved for use within the EU are prohibited from entry, even if residue levels fall below the established MRL thresholds.

The workshop provided practical guidance to companies on how to align with EU standards, ensuring product safety, regulatory compliance, and sustained access to European markets.

The Council reaffirmed its dedication to equipping exporters with the technical knowledge and tools required to enhance competitiveness and maintain compliance in highly regulated markets.
