Egypt’s Chemical and Fertilizers Export Council Explores New Export Opportunities with Bucharest Chamber of Commerce

The Egyptian Chemical and Fertilizers Export Council (ECFEC) held a joint meeting with the Bucharest Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Romania, in coordination with the Egyptian Commercial Service, to explore ways to strengthen trade cooperation and unlock new opportunities for Egyptian exports in the Romanian market, as part of broader efforts to enhance economic relations between Egypt and the European Union.

The meeting brought together high-level representatives from both the Egyptian and Romanian sides. The Romanian delegation included Iuliu Stocklosa, President of the Bucharest Chamber of Commerce and Industry; Laurentiu Margarit, Head of Marketing, Communication and Protocol; and Iliuță-Sorin Enache, Head of the Immigration Office, alongside a number of business leaders and George Petrusan, Head of the Romanian Commercial Office at the Romanian Embassy.

The Egyptian delegation included Eng. Ali El-Zein, Board Member of ECFEC; Mohamed Magid, Executive Director; and Yehia El-Menshawy, Director of Business Development and International Cooperation, in the presence of Commercial Counselor Hassan Hariz representing the Egyptian Commercial Service.

Eng. Ali El-Zein stated that Romania represents a promising market for Egyptian chemical and fertilizer exports, particularly given the diversity of Egyptian products, their competitive pricing, and compliance with European Union standards.

Mohamed Magid noted that Egyptian chemical exports to Romania reached approximately USD 220 million in 2025, with fertilizers accounting for the largest share at USD 165 million, followed by plastics at USD 37 million and intermediate chemicals at USD 15 million. Additional exports include glass, inks, paints, detergents, adhesives, and rubber products.

He emphasized that these figures highlight significant potential for further growth, especially amid rising demand for Egyptian chemical products in the Romanian market, reaffirming the council’s openness to expanding cooperation and partnerships.

Yehia El-Menshawy added that the meeting builds on previous coordination efforts with the Egyptian Commercial Office in Bucharest, noting that the next phase will focus on enhancing direct engagement between Egyptian and Romanian companies to support sustainable trade and investment partnerships.

For his part, Iuliu Stocklosa highlighted that the strategic geographic location of both Egypt and Romania, combined with advanced logistics and proximity, creates real opportunities to boost bilateral trade, while praising the quality and EU compliance of Egyptian products.

The meeting concluded with both sides stressing the importance of continued coordination to translate opportunities into tangible cooperation and partnerships that will contribute to increasing bilateral trade volumes in the coming period.

George Petrusan also noted that Egypt’s export council model represents an effective mechanism for strengthening business connectivity and facilitating international trade cooperation.
