French Authorities Arrest 15-Year-Old in Major Government Data Breach Case
Authorities in France have arrested a 15-year-old suspect in connection with one of the most serious cyberattacks targeting a government entity responsible for managing official administrative records.
According to investigators, the teenager allegedly infiltrated the systems of a public agency tasked with issuing official documents, gaining access to a vast database containing personal information belonging to millions of users. The suspect is believed to have subsequently offered the stolen data for sale on cybercrime forums under a pseudonym.
Estimates suggest that between 12 million and 18 million records were compromised, while some listings advertised the availability of up to 19 million records, making the incident one of the largest data breaches involving a government institution in the country.
The case has once again highlighted the growing scale and sophistication of cybersecurity threats, including those originating from increasingly younger individuals, raising concerns about vulnerabilities in public sector digital infrastructure.
