NTRA Reports Surge in Egypt’s 2026 Internet Usage: Entertainment VOD and Short Videos Lead the Growth
The National Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (NTRA) has released its 24-hour internet usage indicators for 2026, revealing a significant 60% surge in entertainment content consumption. Compared to the same period in 2025, mobile internet usage rose by 12%, driven by 7.9 million new subscribers. Similarly, fixed broadband usage jumped by 36%, supported by one million new users.
The report highlights a diverse shift in digital behavior across various platforms:
Entertainment & Streaming: Video-on-demand (VOD) platforms like Netflix and Shahid saw a 67% increase in usage, with 52.4 million viewers clocking 43.7 million hours daily.
Short-Form Video: Applications such as Kwai and Likee recorded 14.6 million hours of daily content, marking a 60% growth.
E-Commerce & Social Media: Digital shopping rose by 10%, while social media platforms maintained steady growth with 25.2 billion daily visits.
