Egypt’s ICT and Culture Ministries Accelerate AI-Driven Heritage Digitization and Creative Support
In a strategic push toward a digital cultural landscape, Eng. Raafat Hindy, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, and Dr. Gihan Zaki, Minister of Culture, convened to review the progress of joint AI-powered projects. A key highlight of the meeting was the expansion of the "Ktab" app, a massive digital library featuring over 4,000 cultural and heritage titles. The ministers also discussed the imminent launch of the "Digital Culture Palace" platform, designed as a digital incubator for artists across Egypt’s governorates to showcase their work beyond traditional geographical boundaries.
The collaboration leverages cutting-edge AI developed by the Applied Innovation Center (AIC), specifically the "Karnak" model—a Large Language Model (LLM) tailored to Egyptian identity. This technology powers applications like "Sia," an intelligent tutor for students, and advanced AI-driven translation and audiobook production systems. By integrating generative AI into humanities and arts, Egypt is streamlining the translation of cultural texts and making audiobooks more accessible, ensuring the nation’s rich intellectual legacy is preserved and disseminated through modern digital channels.
