Egypt’s Digital Shift Hits Record High: 60 Million Mobile Wallets and 1.35 Million POS Terminals Reported by Year-End 2025

Egypt’s transition toward a cashless economy is accelerating at an unprecedented pace, according to the latest infrastructure data from the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE). By the end of December 2025, the number of mobile wallets surged to 60 million, marking a significant jump from 50.4 million in 2024 and 39.4 million in 2023. This exponential growth underscores the rapid adoption of digital financial solutions across diverse segments of Egyptian society.

Complementing this mobile surge, the physical acceptance network has seen massive expansion, with the number of Electronic Point of Sale (POS) terminals reaching 1.351 million. This infrastructure growth is designed to reduce cash dependency within the retail and service sectors. Despite the digital boom, the CBE continues to strengthen traditional access points, reporting a total of 26,160 ATMs and 4,787 bank branches nationwide. This dual-track strategy ensures that the Egyptian banking sector remains resilient while leading the regional charge in digital transformation and financial inclusion.
