Grand Egyptian Museum Launches Unified Digital Platform to Combat Fraud and Streamline Ticket Booking
The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities has officially launched an upgraded electronic platform for booking tickets to the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), prioritizing user security and institutional transparency. Dr. Ahmed Ghoneim, CEO of the GEM Authority, stated that the new platform aims to unify the museum's digital identity by establishing a single, official channel for all bookings. This move is a direct response to the rise of fraudulent third-party websites mimicking the museum’s branding to sell counterfeit tickets.
To further safeguard visitors, the ministry is transitioning its official domain to the national (.eg) extension. Dr. Mohamed Shaban, Assistant Minister for Digital Services, explained that using the government-verified domain (https://tickets.gem.eg) provides a higher level of trust and effectively mitigates phishing attempts commonly found on commercial (.com) domains. While the previous link (visit-gem.com) will remain active during a transitional period with cross-linking features, it will eventually be phased out to ensure a secure, centralized booking experience for all global travelers.
