From New Cairo to Meta HQ: Egyptian AI App ”ScribeMe” Empowering the Visually Impaired in 130 Countries

ScribeMe, an innovative AI-driven application developed by Beshoy Michelle, a Mechatronics Engineering student at Egypt University of Informatics (EUI), is making waves globally by providing life-changing independence to the visually impaired. Currently operating in 130 countries and supporting 15 languages, the app utilizes advanced computer vision to read documents, describe surroundings, and interpret visual data in real-time. The startup’s rapid ascent caught the attention of global tech giants, leading to its selection as the only international participant at the Meta Wearables Summit in the United States.

Dr. Ahmed Hamad, Acting President of EUI, stated that ScribeMe is a testament to Egyptian talent’s ability to lead in the Fourth Industrial Revolution. The application has secured top honors in numerous prestigious competitions, including the Vodafone AI Hackathon and the Rising Up in Spain program by ICEX. By integrating features like "Live Assist" and biometric face recognition, ScribeMe is not just a tool but a comprehensive "Cognitive Eye" that bridges the accessibility gap in education and employment worldwide.
