Egypt Eyes Electric Vehicle Swap Program for Aging Fleets Under National Green Strategy

Under the direct supervision of Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Egypt is accelerating its transition toward a green economy by placing Electric Vehicles (EVs) at the forefront of its industrial agenda. Engineer Alaa Salah revealed that a new economic initiative is being studied to replace aging taxis and private cars with modern electric vehicles. This "scrappage and replacement" initiative aims to significantly reduce carbon emissions and improve national fuel efficiency, backed by the Rapid Transport Vehicle Replacement Fund.

[Strategic Pillars of the Updated Automotive Program]

Hybrid Inclusion: Integrating HEVs into the incentive structure to diversify energy sources.

Green Scrappage Scheme: Financial and logistical support for swapping old ICE vehicles for EVs.

Feeder Industry Support: Non-monetary incentives to boost local parts production (e.g., batteries, harnesses, interiors).

Legal Framework: Leveraging Law 72 to grant tax breaks and land incentives for eco-friendly manufacturing.

This integrated approach ensures that Egypt’s automotive strategy is not only about production volume but also about environmental sustainability and the development of a robust local supply chain that can serve both domestic and export markets.
